    Brett's Sound Running 10,000m Race Recap - #188

This episode is brought to you by the McGrath Launceston Running Festival

    TRAINING WEEKS

Brett recaps his recent 10,000m performance and talks honestly about why he was disappointed with his race. Joel prompts him to reflect on races earlier on his career that he was disappointed with, which leads to a great conversation on exactly why he's temporarily focusing on the track.

    THE BIG Q

Joel takes on the roll of a "Friend Of The Show" this week, asking Brett how long he thinks a runner is allowed to feel disappointed after a poor performance. Brett gives an insightful answer which also addresses how long a runner should feel elated for, after a fantastic performance.

    GIVE SOME KUDOS

Brett sends his towards Cam Myers for what the guys say is one of the most incredible runs they've ever seen. Joel sends his to an exciting new furniture design studio.

    TWHSOITWTWATSA

Before they submit their victims for this week's segment Joel sheds light on an exciting competition from our mates at Better Beer, which will see the winner have their rent or mortgage paid for (for the rest of the year). Moving onto the segment Brett isn't sure about a certain comment found on social media regarding the Men's 3000m at Maurie Plant Meet. Joel closes out the segment and the episode with a video of a very unusual cheer squad during a collegiate 4x 400m relay.

For The Kudos / Maurie Plant Meet Preview - #187

This episode is brought to you by the 2026 Maurie Plant Meet. Use code FTK15 for 15% off tickets. Reminder our live show on the Sunday morning is completely free to attend. We hope to see you all there :)

The episode kicks off with Brett & Joel previewing the highlight meets of this weekend's Maurie Plant Meet.

    TRAINING WEEKS

Joel begins by explaining to the listeners he'll be swapping out his (boring) training week's for an upcoming "coaches corner" segment. Brett takes the listeners through his training week which begins with some rapid Monday strides in spikes. Tuesday's workout sees Brian and Brett decide to run faster than the prescribed paces to prepare for the Sound Running 10,000m in America before closing out the week with a solid threshold and an easier long run.

    THE BIG Q

One of Joel's athletes poses a question on targeting the City 2 Surf three weeks out from a major 2026 race goal at Sydney Marathon. Brett & Joel put their coaches hat on (Joel's is permanently on with his shift to focus on coaching) in order to answer this best.

    GIVE SOME KUDOS

Brett & Joel send their kudos to some of the highlight performances from our Australian stars at the recent World Athletics Indoor Championships.

    TWHSOITWTWATSA

Brett (possibly for the second time in two weeks) brings up a hilarious image from Joel's recent house purchase. Joel swaps Instagram for Facebook Messenger to share a ridiculously funny message that was sent to him on Wednesday.

    TRAINING WEEKS

After an introduction filled with plenty of laughs, Joel gets his training week out of the way swiftly. Brett takes the listeners through his training week post Nagoya City Half. He battles fatigue throughout the week but defies the odds in his Thursday threshold.

    THE BIG Q

This week "Friend Of The Show" Bek McAlinden submits a question on how we, as coaches would approach the programming of an athlete diagnosed with REDS.

    GIVE SOME KUDOS

Brett sends his kudos towards the recent news of Melbourne Marathon hosting the GOAT in 2026. Joel, true to brand, sends his to hearing live music on a big system (did he already submit this in 2025?)

    TWHSOITWTWATSA

Brett takes no prisoners with questions towards Andy Buchanan's recent Instagram post. Joel closes out the segment and the show with his third race submission in three weeks.

Brett's Nagoya City Half Marathon Win Recap - #185

    TRAINING WEEKS

We hear Brett's training in the lead up to his Half Marathon win in Japan. That's three races in three weeks from the fossil - two wins and one second. Joel completes four runs in a week for the first time in a long while.

    THE BIG Q

This week "Friend Of The Show" Cam McEwan (who was also supporting the FTK family on the sidelines of Nagoya) submits a question surrounding forced heat training, particularly when you're preparing for a winter marathon.

    GIVE SOME KUDOS

Two athletes receive the coveted Kudos award this week. Any guesses who?

    TWHSOITWTWATSA

For the second week in a row the guys have submissions from big international races.

    For The Kudos - #184

    TRAINING WEEKS

Brett takes the listeners through his race week training in the lead up to Saturday night's 3000m second place finish in Hobart. We hear about his race tactics and what he would have done differently. Joel takes us through his training week which involved his Pulse 5000m pacing gig. What started out strong dwindled in the back half as he prioritised his favourite sport.

    THE BIG Q

"Friend Of The Show" Vincent Tulley has a question around pacing and how to improve on it. Brett & Joel talk through ways runners can become better at pacing in training, which in turn helps for better pacing in races.

    GIVE SOME KUDOS

Brett has a hilarious submission in "The Moon's Marketing Team" while Joel sends his to his well-deserving girlfriend Chelsea.

    TWHSOITWTWATSA

Both Brett and Joel opt for race submissions this week - Brett with a clash between two college teammates, while Joel highlights the serious error from the lead bicycle/media car/race motorbike in the USATF Women's Half Marathon over the weekend.

    For The Kudos - #183

This episode is brought to you by the McGrath Launceston Running Festival

    TRAINING WEEKS

Kicking off the week Brett takes us through his Tuesday workout prior to his Box Hill Burn 5000m win. While the race recap was on last week's episode, Brett & Joel chatted through his mindset moving forward to this Saturday night's 3000m in Hobart. Joel went to the well in his first Tuesday workout with the PTC crew and fit in a Saturday night threshold as he rushes training before his Pulse 5000m gig (which you've all been waiting on the edge of your seats to hear about).

    THE BIG Q

"Friend Of The Show" Scott T writes in with a question on pushing too hard in long runs. Brett & Joel discuss the problems associated with this which leads to a discussion on non-elite runners being influenced to overtrain by social media.

    GIVE SOME KUDOS

Brett & Joel send their Kudos to all the people that ran, spectated and volunteered at last night's Pulse 5000m.

    TWHSOITWTWATSA

After overcommitting with three submissions last week Brett arrives at the segment with the same submission as Joel. Who puts fireworks/firecrackers at the start line of a race?

    The Fall Guys - #49

What a week for The Fall Guys, as Brett emerges victorious under the bright lights of Box Hill - but will it be enough to win the Cam Myers Award? It’s not quite Hamish and Andy but the next best thing of Fraser and Andy this week as Riley is away sick. There’s Winter Olympics chat, Andy does some sponsor work and training while Fraser gets a second opinion and takes up residence in the sauna. Fraser also shamelessly copies another of his favourite radio segments to finish the show.

Jack's Australian Half Marathon Record & Brett's Box Hill Burn 5000m Win Recap - #182

An absolute mammoth episode for you all here. Two fantastic races from our OG and 2025 FTK hosts.

    TRAINING WEEKS

Brett kicks things off taking the listeners through his week of training from Monday to Sunday last week. Technically his race recap should be in next week's episode but they're always more interesting hot off the press and Brett selflessly doesn't want to take the spotlight away from Joel's pacing recap next week. As for Jack he extends his training week slightly to give some context behind coach Nic's plan to ensure he didn't miss too much training with his race-week flight to Barcelona. Jack gives us a play-by-play of his Australian record run.

    THE BIG Q

Thanks to FTK "Friend Of The Show" Nick Watson for posing a question on what choices a runner should make when their performances have stagnated for a couple of years. Brett, Jack & Joel discuss when's the right time to make a coach change, swap race distance goals or even more training location.

    GIVE SOME KUDOS

Brett & Jack give Kudos to each other this week (definitely well deserved) while Joel sends his to Maciek (Magic Moments) for his stellar filming skills at the Box Hill Burn 5000m.

    TWHSOITWTWATSA

Brett has three submissions in his arsenal this week (this will likely result in him arriving empty handed next episode) while Jack isn't sure about the bloke that's been breaking Marathon "records" in Jeans. Joel closes out the episode with a shout out to the TikTok edits of Shrek competing on the track.
